Best Buy to slash HTC Flyer price tag

Best Buy to slash HTC Flyer price tag

In the wake of HP's fire sale for the TouchPad, it looks like yet another tablet will be given a price reduction to encourage sales. This time around it's the HTC Flyer, thanks to the folks over at Best Buy. It has been reported that starting tomorrow, October 1st, Best Buy outlets will be reducing the price of the HTC Flyer from $499 to $299. That's $200 off, similar to what the BlackBerry PlayBook has been getting. Then again, it's not like we didn't see this coming.

Since the HTC Flyer was released, it hasn't really made an impact on the tablet world, with hardly anybody even talking about it.

Facebook will reveal Project Spartan next week

Facebook will reveal Project Spartan next week

TechCrunch has received both screenshots and confirmation that Facebook plans to reveal its secretive Project Spartan — or rather, Facebook Platform — next week. As previously reported, this will supposedly be an HTML5-based platform so that developers can bypass Apple's heavy taxation and push apps to iOS customers via the Safari browser. It also seems to be a direct competitor to Google's Chrome Web Store which offers HTML5-based apps and games exclusively within the Chrome browser and OS.

Mid-Range Samsung i857 for AT&T to Be Known as Doubletime

AT&T has a new mid-range Android handset headed to their lineup in the form of the Samsung Doubletime. While little is known about the handset first outed as the Samsung i857, a roadmap leaked earlier in the year suggests it will sport an HVGA display, 3MP camera, and could ship with Android 2.2. The new product name was revealed in a recently uncovered Cellebrite listing. The handset was initially scheduled for a Q3 release, but with the days ticking away and Q4 just around the corner, a later release seems likely at this point.

Samsung announces faster Flash memory for smartphones

The embedded multimedia card (e-MMC) uses a stack of eight 64 Gb, 20 nm NAND flash memory chips with a toggle DDR 2 interface. It is about 1.4 mm thick and weighs 0.6 grams. “By starting production of the 64Gb-based 64GB e-MMC solution this year, we are accelerating the pace of adoption of premium embedded memory cards,” said Myung Ho Kim, vice president of memory marketing at Samsung in a prepared statement.
According to the company, the device supports sequential read speeds of up to 80 MB/s and sequential write speeds of 40MB/s, which is about three times better than the current product generation.
