iPhone 5′s new display tech seen as reason for supply shortages

. Apple's (AAPL) decision to use a thinner and lighter touch screen on the iPhone 5 has contributed to the component shortage that affected opening weekend sales, Bloomberg reported. The Cupertino-based company for the first time is using in-cell screen technology, which combines the display and touch sensor into a single layer. The technology makes for a beautiful display, however it is also more difficult to manufacture. "Apple is facing significant production constraints due to a move toward in-cell display technology," Ben Reitzes, an analyst at Barclays, wrote in a research note.

Gartner: Windows 8 is a necessary risk for Microsoft

Analysts at Gartner said on Monday that Microsoft is making a big gamble with Windows 8, but a necessary one if the Redmond company wants to stay relevant in a multi-screen world. The news arrives as the release date of Windows 8 grows near. Microsoft has received a lot of criticism for the new operating system's new touch-based focus, seemingly pushing aside the typical desktop user that has fed it millions for decades.

CoolerMaster Jas Pro Stand Review

Large, airy, and elegant – the Jas Pro stand from CoolerMaster. We're a nomadic group, we geeks. Few of our main devices require constant power, a steady place to rest, or a permanent home. But, when you're back from the road, and want to plug that laptop/netbook/tablet into a large monitor, having a proper place to put said device can really make a difference.

The Jas Pro MacBook Pro Display Stand from Cooler Systems, however, does all these things, and more. But first, an overview. The stand itself is a frame that adjusts into an “A” frame stand.

Samsung Galaxy Note II US availability to be detailed at October 24 event

The Samsung Galaxy Note II is on its way to the US. A couple of weeks ago, the Korean company announced that its latest phablet will be sold by AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular ‘by mid-November'. We're hoping that means it will also make pricing and exact availability info public.

The big date is October 24, so there's still a lot of time to go.
