Nikon Patent Hints At Camera With Interchangeable Sensors

Nikon Patent Hints At Camera With Interchangeable Sensors

Megapixels are one of the things that camera manufacturers love to tout and use as a tool to market their products, although many photographers will tell you that the megapixels don't really matter that much unless you're planning to print huge photos, and while it does help to a certain degree, having more megapixels does not necessarily mean it is a better camera. To that extent wouldn't it be a great idea if cameras could come with interchangeable sensors. Imagine if you could buy a camera body but be able to swap out sensors depending on your needs, or if you needed to clean it or gain access to it, wouldn't that be convenient.

iPhone 5s Paint Peeling Off Issue Reported

Last year when the iPhone 5 was released, many early adopters reported that the paint was peeling off from their new iPhones. Some even found that their new smartphone came bearing scratches straight out of the box. The issue wasn't widespread, and the reports didn't come in after the initial stock had all been sold out. Apparently a similar issue has surfaced with the iPhone 5s as well, with some users complaining of iPhone 5s paint peeling off.

Ford's Mulally now said to be in lead for Microsoft CEO job

There have been rumors that Ford CEO Alan Mulally could assume the top job over at Microsoft, whose CEO, Steve Ballmer, will retire within the year. Mulally hasn't come out and said that he's considering moving to Microsoft after (or before) his contract with Ford through 2014 ends, but sources in the know say he's the front-runner to become the tech giant's CEO and has opened up to the idea more in recent weeks, AllThingsD reports. Mulally is no stranger to Washington, where Microsoft is located, having worked in the state for Seattle-based Boeing Commercial Airplanes as CEO years ago.

Iranian Hackers Reportedly Compromised U.S. Navy Computers

Iranian Hackers Reportedly Compromised U.S. Navy Computers

We've heard time and again of hackers based in China allegedly launching cyberattacks against the U.S., however this time around, there appears to be a new contender. Relations between Iran and the U.S. aren't too spectacular, that's definitely no secret, so its not entirely impossible to believe that something like this can't happen between the two. According to a new Wall Street Journal report, unclassified U.S. Navy computers were reportedly compromised by a group of hackers that are either “working directly for Iran's government,” or they're acting with the “approval” of Iran's leaders.

This iPhone dock has a "slap-happy" snooze bar

There are a lot of docks out there that allow you to use your iPhone as an alarm clock, but Snooze from DistilUnion says their working snooze bar separates them from the pack.  The body of the dock is made of maple wood; the snooze bar is made of a rubbery material with an internal stiffener that will press on the phone's volume button when pressed.  The dock will work with any app that uses the volume button to silence the phone, so you can also use it to silence unwanted phone calls, for example.  The Snooze has a rubbery pad on the bottom to protect your furniture and to prevent the dock from sliding around.

CyanogenMod's cLock widget makes Google Play debut as "Chronus"

It was back in February of this year that the CyanogenMod team announced that they would be changing the name of their custom clock widget, Chronus, to that of “cLock”. This was due to the team being hit with a cease and desist letter from someone claiming to own the rights to the name. Today, the CyanogenMod developer responsible for the clock widget is announcing the triumphant return of “Chronus”, this time available to all in the Google Play Store.

Rumors of Android 4.3 soon coming to the Galaxy S34, S3 and Note 2 have been circulating the internet, but now we have a bit of proof. French carrier SFR has released a roadmap table with information about their devices' upcoming OTA updates. According to SFR, the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 should be getting Android 4.3 Jelly Bean sometime in November-December, while the almighty Galaxy S4 is set to receive it in October. Now, we are not sure how long it will take our carriers to catch up. We know how American carriers can be and don't expect most of them to be on time, but at least we know Samsung is almost ready to get things going.

Google Glass XE10 Update Touted To Offer 3rd Party Glassware Apps

To date, it has been rather challenging for third party developers to roll out apps for Google Glass, but it seems that things are set to change with the introduction of the upcoming Google Glass XE10 update. This particular Google Glass XE10 update will offer code jockeys the necessary tools required for a third party developer to begin writing third party Glassware apps for the Google Glass platform. With this update, developers would have the doors opened up to them so that they can access the sensors as well as features on Google Glass.

Cadillac has just set the new configurator for the redesigned, 2014 CTS live. While we've already tested out the new CTS, this is our first chance to play with all the interior and exterior color options and to get a fair idea of the price. The new CTS covers a broad swath from the $46,025 base model, with the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, to the $59,995 VSport, complete with its brawny, 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged V6. It doesn't take much to send the CTS's price up from there, though. Opt for the VSport Premium trim, and the price immediately jumps $10,000.

iOS 7.0.2 Released To Fix Lock Screen Bug

iOS 7.0.2 Released To Fix Lock Screen Bug

Soon after Apple released iOS 7 to the public on September 18th, a bug was discovered in the lock screen. The bug could be exploited to gain unauthorized access to the e-mail, messages, Twitter, Photos and more of an iOS 7 device, even if a passcode was in place. Today, Apple has released iOS 7.0.2 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to fix this bug. The update weighs in at roughly 17MB, so there's nothing major there except the bug fix and the reintroduction of a Greek keyboard option for passcode entry.
A few days ago, yet another bug was discovered in iOS 7.

Fiat-Chrysler alliance in jeopardy due to Pentastar's IPO filing?

The four-year relationship between Fiat and Chrysler has thus far been beneficial for both automakers, but it has also proven to be a complicated battle between Sergio Marchionne and the United Auto Workers – the latter controlling the remaining 41.5 percent of Chrysler. With the recent filing for a US IPO, it looks like Marchionne and the UAW appear to be playing a billion-dollar game of chicken, with both sides far apart on how much the union's shares are worth. If it comes down to Chrysler's remaining stake being publicly traded, it could act to drive a wedge between the two companies.

iOS 7 Sees 52% Adoption Rate A Week After Launch

Unlike Android where users will have to wait for manufacturers to get the update, modify it to fit their devices, and roll them out, and in some cases go through carrier certification and testing first, iOS users will be able to pull the update from Apple's servers regardless of which iOS device they are using (some features could be disabled on older models), which is why it is not surprising to find that as it stands, iOS 7 has been found to have been installed on 52% of iOS devices about a week after its launch. This is according to Chitika who based the numbers on the iOS devices that make its way onto its advertising network.

Remember our earlier story on how an unauthorized iMessage app managed to appear over in Google Play. Project Drive-In, a Honda-sponsored campaign to save drive-in theaters across the country, is beginning to bear fruit, as the first theaters have been informed that they'll be getting free digital projectors. Many theaters still use 35-millimeter film, which is being phased out rather aggressively in the movie industry. The move to digital, meanwhile, requires nearly a six-figure investment, forcing many drive-ins to close up shop for good. The first phase of the campaign saw the public vote for their favorite drive-in, with the top five getting a free digital projector, courtesy of Honda.

Violent GTA 5 Robbery Committed By 3 Young Men

Plenty has been said about GTA 5, the recently released title on current generation consoles that look set to sell like hot cakes and in the process, perhaps break some sales records or two. Well, one thing is for sure – the GTA game series is not a title that you would use to nanny younger children, which is good since I believe they would much rather want to catch 'em all in Pokemon, too. Well, having said that, a trio of teenagers were arrested on suspicion of robbery, where the robbery saw the following items stolen – a watch, a mobile phone, and a copy of Grand Theft Auto 5.

Even when new, its interior was composed almost exclusively of second-rate plastics, its engines were asthmatic and its transmissions made decisions with the quickness and alacrity of Congress. It's that last quality that makes it the perfect subject for the Slow Mo Guys, a crew of destruction-minded dudes who decided to strap a not-insignificant amount of explosives to one such General Motors offering.

The addition of Chromecast support was embedded to its web player on the quiet, enabling users of Google's TV dongle to "send" videos that are shown on third-party websites directly from their browser to their TV. The company is expected to announce refreshed versions of both of its tablets later this year. According to a latest rumor, Apple might announce the new iPad as well as the much rumored iPad mini with Retina display on October 15th. Since there's no official word as yet, we can't really be sure. This particular rumor comes from a French blog with a track record that is mixed at best.
The new iPad is expected to come with design changes.

IRL: Testing the Nokia Lumia 1020's optional camera grip / battery case

If you're going to buy the Lumia 1020 for its 41-megapixel camera (and if not that, what the heck did you buy it for?) you may as well spring for the $59 camera grip too. That's what Philip told himself, anyway, after picking up the phone on AT&T. Camera Grip for Nokia Lumia 1020.
The accessorizing continues. Not long after picking up a Nokia Lumia 1020, I sought out the optional camera grip, which adds, among other things, a tripod socket. After all, my return to the Windows Phone world had more to do with the amazing camera than, well, most anything else.

US Government Office Cannot Be Reached Via Fax Because Of Alleged Broken Fax Machine

US Government Office Cannot Be Reached Via Fax Because Of Alleged Broken Fax Machine

As impossible as it might sound, but it seems that the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) in the US has reportedly experienced a situation where the OSD could not be reached because of an alleged broken fax machine. In fact, it has been said that one is unable to fax through to the OSD in the past fortnight, simply because the fax machine has been down and could remain in the same state for the immediate future. Interestingly enough, the OSD does oversee the U.S.

Sony BRAVIA Smart Stick Revealed

Sony BRAVIA Smart Stick Revealed

The Sony BRAVIA Smart Stick, otherwise known as the Sony NSZ-GU1 Google TV in FCC filings of yore, has been revealed partially. It does look, however, that the rumors are true – Sony was working on a Google Chromecast rival, and the Sony BRAVIA Smart Stick looks set to be the device in question. While it was not mentioned in the FCC filing that the BRAVIA Smart Stick will arrive with certain features that make it look as though it will styled after Chromecast, we do know for sure that it will be an MHL dongle which is capable of handling its own BRAVIA apps in addition to Google TV, of course.

The BlackBerry Z30 seems almost like a sure thing, especially given the amount of leaked photos we've seen in the past, although when exactly BlackBerry plans to make it an official product remains unknown. In any case thanks to a leaked photo that made its way onto the CrackBerry forums, the BlackBerry Z30 can be seen pictured next to the next Sony Xperia Z1 which was recently announced at IFA a couple of weeks ago. The photo above shows the BlackBerry Z30 fully powered on and appears to be at its setup page which is commonly seen on new devices, although apart from that not much else was shown.
