While we are hoping that we can get our gas-guzzling SUVs from the mid-teens to the 20s of miles-per-gallon fuel efficiency, there is a team of students at the University of Michigan that is hoping to break the record of 3,169 MPG. The goal is more than 3,300 MPG for this year's SAE International Supermileage Challenge, which will be held from June 7-8 at the Eaton Corporation Marshall Proving Grounds in Marshall, Michigan. Of course, calling the single-passenger vehicle a car could be called an exaggeration, as the model is neither practical nor safe, or comfortable even, for its driver.
