Valve says NVIDIA's the best, Steam and Left 4 Dead for Linux coming along nicely

Valve says NVIDIA's the best, Steam and Left 4 Dead for Linux coming along nicely

The godfather of Linux, Linus Torvalds, may think that NVIDIA is "the worst," but Valve respectfully disagrees. The company has been working closely with the manufacturer, as well as AMD and Intel, to boost performance of its hardware under the open source OS. The developer clearly has an interest in getting the best from those companies as it works to port Left 4 Dead 2 and Steam to Linux. That close partnership is already bearing impressive fruit as Valve claims its co-op zombie shooter now performs better on Ubuntu than it does under Windows 7 using a GeForce GTX 680.

Free Wi-Fi at Wendy's thanks to Boingo Wireless

Free Wi-Fi at Wendy's thanks to Boingo Wireless

Boingo Wireless has teamed up with fast food chain Wendy's to offer free Wi-Fi connectivity at all of their company-owned stores, but if your neighborhood's Wendy's does not have Wi-Fi, then chances are pretty good it will be part of the Wendy's franchise community who refused the uptake. Hopefully Boingo Wireless will be able to do a good job in managing and operating Wi-Fi services at participating Wendy's company restaurants that are scattered all over the US as well as Canada.

Greenhorn Nixeus, perhaps better known for media streamers, has jumped headfirst into the display market with the 27-inch IPS Vue model boasting a 2,560 x 1,440 pixel WQHD resolution and priced at $430 - around half what you'll pay for similar panels. The new model, which the company says will be released on August 21st, seems to be nicely specced with an LG S-IPS panel, true 8-bit color, 6ms refresh, DVI / DisplayPort / HDMI 1.4 connection options and full-portrait tilting.

CyanogenMod 9 and 10 will no longer support Snapdragon S1 devices

CyanogenMod 9 and 10 will no longer support Snapdragon S1 devices

The CyanogenMod team has done a pretty good job so far at bringing custom ROMs based on the different versions of Android. So far there have been support for plenty of Android devices but if you're still using an old Android phone, by that we mean that it's still running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 processor, it seems that future support for your device as far as CyanogenMod 9 and 10 builds are concerned will no longer be available. In case you aren't familiar, CM9 and CM10 are based on the latest builds of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 and Jelly Bean 4.1 respectively.

Back in June at Computex, Lenovo shows off their forthcoming Windows 8 tablet — not too long after, the US FCC got to play around a similarly specked device, as well. Now, courtesy of some leaked info, we're seeing a slate from the company that looks awfully familiar. According to the spec sheet, which compares the product head-to-head with Apple's iPad, the Windows 8 ThinkPad Tablet 2 will feature a 10.1-inch 1,366 x 768 IPS display, in excess of 10 hours of battery life and two cameras, including an eight megapixel one on the rear. Also on board is NFC and a fingerprint reader, all packed into a 9.8mm body.
