iTunes 90 second song previews now available internationally

iTunes 90 second song previews now available internationally

Apple launched 90 second song previews way back in December last year but to the chagrin of many users, it was only available in the United States. It was reported that Apple had to work hard with individual record labels just to introduce it here, so it took an even longer time to get it approved for international markets. Now, over half a year later, 90 second song previews are finally available internationally. Though it's still not available in every single country yet, it's slowly getting there.

Confirmed: AT&T Will Begin Throttling Unlimited Data Plans

Confirmed: AT&T Will Begin Throttling Unlimited Data Plans

Earlier today we reported that AT&T may begin throttling data usage for the 5 percent of users consuming the most bandwidth, and as the business day begins winding down we now have confirmation straight from the horse’s mouth. Starting October 1st, those using the most bandwidth within any given billing cycle will see their data speeds throttled back, with normal speeds restored once a new billing period begins. AT&T says the new policy is necessary in the face of a “serious wireless spectrum crunch.” The move will provide minimal relief in the short term. AT&T’s proposed long-term solution.

New Information Says Samsung QWERTY Slider Won't Be AT&T's Galaxy S II

New Information Says Samsung QWERTY Slider Won't Be AT&T's Galaxy S II

Not so fast. Looks like that upcoming Samsung QWERTY slider headed for AT&T isn't the Galaxy S II, after all. BGR, who broke the story initially, has received a correction from one of their sources and is now reporting that the sexy slider is a different handset altogether. The confusion arose from the recycling of an old model number initially associated with the Galaxy S II. So AT&T subscribers will be getting the same slim, keyboard-free Galaxy S II headed to other carriers (though it may be slightly retooled), but now we must question where this QWERTY handset fits in.

Kingston lays claim to fastest dual memory kit

Records are meant to be broken, or so the saying goes. Well, Kingston certainly takes their passion for flash memory seriously with their latest release, dubbing it the world's fastest dual channel memory kit. The Kingston HyperX KHX2544C9D3T1FK2x2GX, as it is known, managed to clock 2902MHz with CAS 6 and 3082MHz with CAS 7 latencies at a heavy home over-clocking session in France. Of course, tweaking your memory does need a whole lot of skill and experience as well, otherwise you might just end up burning your piece of memory (and potentially, the whole computer too).

Namco launches iGunCon app for iPhone and Mac

If you enjoyed playing Time Crisis in the arcade back when you were younger, it appears that Namco, the company behind the game, has put out a free app for iPhones called the iGunCon which basically mimics the same light guns that Namco used back then. Essentially the app will turn your iPhone into a virtual gun that can be used with Namco's games. For those who weren't aware, Namco has released the Time Crisis series on both the iPad 2 and Mac computers, with the iPad 2 version called TIME CRISIS 2ND STRIKE HD and the Mac version, which is available from the Mac App Store, being called TIME CRISIS 2ND STRIKE.

Fast, big and light, the Photon 4G is Motorola's new powerhouse smartphone, another in a trend of increasingly powerful handsets debuting this year. We had some hands-on time with the phone before its debut next week.

Picking up the device for the first time is a bit strange. With its 4.3-inch screen and considerably large physical dimensions (2.63 by 4.99 by .48 inches), you'd expect the Photon to possess some degree of heft.

Samsung Q2, 2011: no more then 16.7M smartphones shipped. It's still #3, behind Apple and Nokia

Ok. That was totally unexpected. As the earnings season comes to a close, with Samsung's Q2 earnings report today, we were supposed to have the final data point to see who was  the top dog in smartphones in Q2 2011. And we sort of got it.

It's Apple with 20.34 million iPhones shipped.

What was really unexpected - it's who may have come in second. It's Nokia, with 16.7 million smartphones.

As Nokia smartphone shipments crashed this year, with the onslaught of Android phones like Galaxy S, everyone was expecting them to lose smartphone rankings top spot to both Apple, and Samsung.

The Motorola PHOTON 4G is the company's first 4G handset on Sprint, and even more, it's the first high-end Motorola device set to launch on Sprint's network in a very long time. It's packed to the brim on paper - specifically, with features such as a 1GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2  processor, 1GB of RAM, a 4.3-inch qHD display, an 8-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and a VGA front-facing camera, 16GB of built-in storage, plus global-roaming and 4G WiMAX connectivity. Images have appeared showing an iPhone with a plastic front and back, indicating that it might be the iPhone 4S launching alongside the iPhone 5. Following Apple's supposed “accidental” reveal of an iPod Touch sporting 3G connectivity via the iTunes website on Wednesday, a trio of non-Apple screenshots surfaced on Thursday claiming to be the iPhone 4S.

AngelMed Guardian System warns patients of impending heart attacks

AngelMed Guardian System warns patients of impending heart attacks

One of the main reasons why heart attacks kill people is because of the long time it takes for a victim receiving the attack to the time that he/she gets medical assistance. Sometimes it's because the victim doesn't recognize that they're having a heart attack, or he/she is unable to call out for assistance. This delay time could even be as long a few hours and usually by then it's too late. The AngelMed Guardian System is designed to solve this problem.

Sony PRS-T1 reader spotted at the FCC

It was only a couple of weeks ago that Sony's VP of digital reading, Phil Lubell let slip that there is a new Sony reader in the works. The device which has been said to be a Kindle competitor should be making its way to the shelves come August, which is just shortly after the launch of Sony's S1 and S2 tablets. As it turns out, the reader was recently spotted at the FCC sporting the model PRS-T1. Unfortunately not much else is known about the device other than it has WiFi capabilities, although we're not sure if Sony has plans to make a 3G capable device as well.

Google to launch “Page Speed Service” aimed at web masters

Google has always been about speed, resorting to a no-frills approach as evidenced in their Google search home page, Gmail and even Google+. Over the years they have managed to optimize their system even further, to the point where your search results load as you complete typing them out. So it's really no surprise to find out that Google is planning to launch a new service that they claim will be able to rewrite your website's content and present it to your reader in less time than it takes to load your page.

When it comes to compact digital cameras, the lenses featured are usually somewhere in between a super-zoom or an ultra-wide lens. Photographers who do not wish to carry around a chunky DSLR and the accompanying zoom lenses will probably not be satisfied with the somewhat sparse choices of consumer compact digital cameras that claim to offer super-zoom capabilities. If you are one of the more discerning users, then perhaps Olympus's latest offering of their SP-801UZ compact digital camera could be something worth checking out. They say that looks are not everything, but good thing the Razer Electra goes against conventional wisdom by functioning as well as it looks. On the outside, you get a slick design that is bound to turn heads wherever you go while wearing them, and this pair of cans are more than capable of delivering powerful bass depth and crisp clear soundstages. It can be used with your tablet, smartphone or computer – it doesn't matter, the audio quality delivered will still be top notch if the source file used is worth its salt, of course.

The HP TouchPad, the company's first webOS-based tablet, is already available in North America and in some European markets. So it's expected that it will slowly make its way to other territories. After all, one of HP's key strengths is distribution, so it may as well sell the TouchPad in as many countries as it can. One place that hasn't yet seen an official release of HP's tablet is Australia. However, that will change on August 15, when the TouchPad will become available over there.

It won't be cheap. The 16 GB model will retail for $599, and the 32 GB version will be $699.

Google Books app disappears and reappears on the Apple App Store

Google Books app disappears and reappears on the Apple App Store

Yesterday the Google Books app mysteriously disappeared from the Apple App Store and now it's back again. But this time around, it's been neutered. Just like the eBook apps from Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and Kobo, Google Books no longer allows in-app purchases for new books. This is in compliance to Apple's updated App Store rules that requires apps to split revenue made from in-app sales.
Since eBook retailers already need to split revenue with the book publishers, they've been unwilling to give up even more of their profits to Apple to allow in-app purchases from their apps.

And if you can't be bothered, just buy some XP and unlock everything. Which defeats the point a little, but there you are.

Artificial lungs can replace our regular lungs in the future

Artificial lungs can replace our regular lungs in the future

It's amazing how far technology has come, back in the day who would've thought that we'd be able to replace our malfunctioning lungs with an artificial lung. Some researchers at the Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) have come up with an easily portable and implantable artificial lung and here's the best part: it is said to work with regular air. Currently, artificial lungs required pure oxygen in order to function - patients can't use the lungs with regular air. Having to breathe pure oxygen meant that they need large tanks of oxygen in order to function - limiting their mobility.

The HTC Bliss is still wrapped in mystery, although that shroud is slowly but surely being unraveled by tech ninjas. This Android-powered smartphone was rumored to target women, and it returns to the limelight as a leaked handset render that is resting in the tabletop cradle. You can't really take a pick out a whole lot of information from the image as the Bliss is docked, although the color does seem to reflect the green hue that was rumored to be plastered all over the device. There is no word on when the HTC Bliss will be released, but this particular smartphone's case has already been spotted.

After American expat BirdAbroad made her local stores famous last week, local officials have since been combing through the city's 300-plus gadget shops on behalf of Apple China, and managed to dig up two more “Apple” stores. It's not exactly clear if these new offenders are at the same severity as the ones spotted by BirdAbroad, but the authorities have confirmed that none of the five stores are Apple Authorised Resellers, let alone having its permission to use its logo on their store front. Additionally, two out of the five stores have since been shut down due to unlicensed retail operation.
