Galaxy S4 Benchmark 'Optimization' Drama Hits Samsung

Galaxy S4 Benchmark 'Optimization' Drama Hits Samsung

There's a new wave of drama hitting the Samsung Galaxy S4 today. After running some tests tech site Anandtech has noticed that Samsung was allowing at least a version of the S4 to run its graphics processor (GPU) at higher frequency (533MHz) in some benchmarks, while games yielded a lower frequency of 480MHz. In other words, Samsung would be inflating its graphics horsepower by 11.04%. The reviewers were able to get accurate frequency numbers thanks to a built-in command available to anyone who can log as an administrator (root) in Android.

Canon VIXIA Mini Compact Personal Camcorder Announced

While most of us do use our smartphones as a digital camera as well as camcorder most of the time, there are still others out there who do not mind forking out a little bit extra to tote around a device that is dedicated to do just one thing, casting the word "multi-tasking" out of its vocabulary. The Canon VIXIA Mini compact personal camcorder is one such device, and if previous VIXIA models were anything to go by, this is all set to be one device that packs quite a punch.

NVIDIA Shield review

NVIDIA Shield review

NVIDIA Shield is a truly strange device. It combines an eight-button console-size gamepad with dual analog sticks, and a 5-inch "multi-touch, retinal" screen. It runs stock Android 4.2.1. It touts wireless PC game streaming as its main selling point. It plays Android games, it plays PC games, it does the Twitter and the Gmail, et cetera. With Shield, NVIDIA is aiming to be the Swiss Army Knife of handheld game consoles. It slices! It dices! ShamWOW!

It also costs $300, weighs nearly 1.5 pounds and takes up quite a bit of bag space.

3D Printed Car Looks Impressive Even When Incomplete

3D Printed Car Looks Impressive Even When Incomplete

We have had our fair share of run-ins with 3D printers in the past where news is concerned, and most recently, it is said that 3D printers could pose as a hazardous health risk in the home. I suppose that is not going to stop a certain Ivan Sentch of New Zealand who owns a second generation 3D printer known as Solidoodle, where he will use the Solidoodle to print a 3D car as you can see above. Of course, this does not mean that Ivan is on to the world's first 3D printed car as that has been done before in the form of the Urbee, although not from the home.

Honda thumbs nose at fleet sales, claims it leads in key vehicle segments

Fleet sales are a way of life in the automotive industry. There are many non-retail customers that need vehicles, but going too far can reduce brand image and vehicle resale value. While some of its competitors have fleet sale that account for up to 20 or 30 of overall sales, Honda is bragging that it has the lowest fleet sales of all mainstream automakers for the first five months of 2013.

LG BTS1 Bluetooth Headset

LG BTS1 Bluetooth Headset

Bluetooth headsets are plentiful in the market, and it is not too often that you see a smartphone manufacturer take the time and effort to allocate some resources for a niche market, working on something that is not their forte. LG, however, has just introduced the LG BTS1 Bluetooth Headset in South Korea, where it is relatively tiny with measurements that would rival that of a matchbox (we are talking about 35.9mm x 50.2mm x 19.2mm) here.

Windows Phone Instance App Fix

Windows Phone Instance App Fix

Instagram has not made its way to the Windows Phone platform (despite rumors in the past that stated it would be so), so if one is unable to have lobster, shrimp will have to do. In the case of not having Instagram on Windows Phone, there is a workaround through a third party app that is known as Windows Phone Instance. Unfortunately, Instance seemed to have run into its fair share of issues, showing users a message that reads, “Your username or password has changed.”.

NES Controller And Laptop Control A Car

NES Controller And Laptop Control A Car

Remember James Bond who used a Sony Ericsson handset to control his BMW 750iL in Tomorrow Never Dies. Well, that was clearly something only the MI6 is capable of coming up with in the movies, but what about real life. I guess life is not all that glamorous, where a couple of security experts who happen to work for DARPA have managed to find a way to control a vehicle – and this "hack" is done thanks to the assistance of a laptop as well as an old school NES controller. Yes sir, who would have thought that an controller of an 8-bit video game console would come in handy so many years down the road.

And Vinyly Transforms Ashes Of Bodies Into Vinyl Records

Since land is getting more and more scarce these days in certain countries, it makes more sense to send a body for cremation after death than to settle for burial. Apart from your ashes after you've left this life, your worldly possessions, in addition to photos and videos, will be some of the things that your loved ones are able to remember you by. How about experiencing a paradigm shift even after cremation by using your ashes to be turned into custom vinyl records that can be played on a record player. This is what British company And Vinyly is promoting.

Close to a fortnight ago, we got word that the HTC One mini has already received approval from the good people over at the FCC, and here we are two weeks down the road with press renders of the AT&T-bound HTC One mini spotted. How do we know that this shrunken version of the flagship HTC One (with some changes in the hardware too, of course, as it is not only cosmetic alterations on the outside) is headed towards AT&T. The answer is simple, really, as the press render leak did show off the AT&T name where the carrier name is normally displayed.

Honda celebrates the life of Ayrton Senna the best way it knows how

Honda is returning to Formula One in 2015 with McLaren, and when that engine maker and that F1 constructor are mentioned together, two other words are never far behind: Ayrton Senna. There are engine suppliers, constructors and drivers that have bigger numbers, but those three form a triumvirate that came close to defining F1 in the eighties. Honda Japan has produced a commercial called Sound of Honda that celebrates Senna at a race that turned out to be one of the most momentous of his career for good and bad reasons: the 1989 grand prix at Suzuka where he won, then was stripped of, the driver's championship.

Q2 2013: Samsung distances itself from Apple in the smartphone market share race

Global smartphone sales continue to surge in 2013, reaching a record high of 237.9 million units shipped in the second quarter (April - June). Samsung is the incontestable leader, itself breaking a new record by shipping 72.4 million smartphones in Q2 (30.4% market share), the vast majority of them running Android. It's a slight growth compared to Q1 2013 (when 70.7 million Samsung smartphones were shipped).
Meanwhile, Apple's iPhone shipments have reached 31.2 million units in Q2 (13.1% market share) - considerably less than the 37.4 million units shipped in Q1.

Unfortunately though, this won't be running BlackBerry OS 10, the Canadian company's new mobile operating system that came to the market early this year after many, many months of anticipation. No, the 9720 will get BlackBerry OS 7.x, the ‘old' version – the one that BlackBerry gave up on completely before creating something entirely new for v10.

While this info is very helpful, it's using a formula that has not been created especially for you. If you're looking for more accuracy, you might want to check out the new SYNC Burn fitness band which uses an ECG accurate heart rate monitor along with an intensity of motion sensor to calculate and show your calories burned 24 hours a day. Take a visual walk through the history of Vespa

Vespa, Italy's legendary scooter manufacturer, might just be the boot-shaped country's most significant, transport-focused cultural export. With respect to Ferrari, it's the diminutive and funky scooter manufacturer that put Italy back on wheels after World War II, with its line of user-friendly miniature motorcycles. Even today, Rome, Milan, and Turin are filled with Vespas, while the tiny scooters can be found in major cities all over the world. Devour has posted a video that was put together by Nomoon, befitting of the brand's off-beat heritage that recaps Vespa's 70-year history.

Google Voice has always been a great service (even if no one outside of America has had the chance to use it yet), but it's been held back by a couple of shortcomings.
