Chrome hits version 18, improves graphics performance

The big one-eight. Another few months and another version of the Google browser is now up for grabs. With GPU-accelerated Canvas 2D now enabled, you can expect to see even smoother interactions with games and other media-heavy content. WebGL also gets a look-in with a new software-based addition that should help older computers access simple 3D web content.

Chinese bus companies tell drivers not to hit supercars

Chinese bus companies tell drivers not to hit supercars

Being a bus driver in China must be awful. Lots of traffic, lots of people, no tipping. And the job has just gotten worse in Jinghua, where a bus company has instructed its drivers to please stop hitting expensive supercars. To illustrate the point, drivers were shown a poster with supercar logos to watch out for and how much the associated cars were worth. Hit a Lamborghini, you'll be out 5 million yuan (almost $800,000 USD). And right there, the last vestige of fun was taken away from the under-appreciated Chinese bus driver.

The poster even includes the Shelby Super Cars logo, which can't possibly be all that common in China.

Acronova Nimbie USB Plus helps create your Blu-ray collection

When one talks about a Blu-ray external copier, we would most probably have ‘expensive' and ‘slow' as the adjectives of choice in our minds. I guess sometimes, the door is always left open to interpretation, as evidenced by the Acronova Nimbie USB Plus. This unique device is capable of stashing away information or huge files, and burning up to a century of Blu-ray discs consecutively, helping you “work” while you sleep so that you can wake up to a stack of Blu-ray discs that is ready to be distributed amongst your friends and family members.

TurboTax Giving Free State and Federal Filing on Android App; This Weekend Only, Tablet Owners Only

TurboTax for Android is out, if you haven't heard, and they're trying to promote it by offering a sweet offer to those filing this year's taxes. You can file both your state and federal taxes completely free if you use the TurboTax app to do it this weekend. The obligatory caveat. Sure – you have to have an Android 3.2+ tablet or an Amazon Kindle Fire. Handset-only owners are out of luck here. Another option for those who are alienated is to ask a friend to use their tablet to file your taxes this weekend. They might even appreciate the tip if they haven't filed their taxes yet.

Ready or not, here it comes: Timeline takes over Facebook today

. After being greeted with mixed reactions, millions of users have warmed up to Facebook's new layout, dubbed Timeline. The new face of Facebook places all of a user's interactions with the social network on the profile page in reverse chronological order, giving friends a single destination with infinite scrolling on which they can observe all status updates, photos, wall posts and more. While Facebook tried its best to make the transition an easy one, the company said in January that the slow march to making Timeline a requirement was underway.

New iPad optimized Facebook app update on its way?

So you've gotten yourself the new iPad, and one of the first few apps that you downloaded straight away was Facebook. Unfortunately while developers were busy trying to optimize their apps for the new iPad's Retina display, it seems that Facebook's last update was back in December of 2011, so needless to say that it has not yet been updated with support for the iPad's new resolution. However according to a screenshot sent in to Macrumors, a UK resident spotted in his App Store a hint that seemed to suggest that an update for Facebook is on its way with support for the iPad's Retina display.

Google patent app details method for generating a 'ghost profile,' a world of anonymous G+ users

Google hasn't exactly had the easiest time keeping the privacy hawks off of its back, but if a recently published patent application is any indication of its future intentions, well. let's just say we could see a lot more people hiding behind an online veil. Made public today, Google's most recent patent app details a "system and method for generating a ghost profile for a social network," which would - in theory, at least - allow a user to use certain features in a social network without converting to a social network profile.

Gmail for iOS now sends email from alternate addresses

The mobile computing workspace is getting more and more powerful, far surpassing the processing ability and capability of desktops from a decade ago. In fact, tablet computing might just be a totally new niche market that could cannibalize on the use of dedicated desktops, but that is something that my crystal ball cannot realize just yet. Having said that, desktop versions on mobile devices have been improved time and again, and Google's Gmail app for the iOS platform has been improved, enabling you to send emails from alternate addresses.

Gyroscope – Geeky Spinning Fun

When I was a kid, there were no iPads, video games, or the Internet. When I wasn't reading books or taking apart broken appliances to salvage magnets, I was playing with yo-yos and gyroscopes. I hadn't thought about gyroscopes in years till I happened upon an entire site dedicated to selling them. Gyroscope.com offers several gyroscopes, but the one shown above really caught my eye. Made of brass and aluminum, it comes with a special electric motor that is used to get it spinning at 12000 RPM. Priced at $98.99, it's definitely a  pricey toy.

First, the outfit has integrated speech-to-text transcription to go alongside its existing audio notes feature. Don't worry, the original audio is also attached to each note and the new tool can be disabled for sound-only reminders. This feature only works with Android 4.0 tech and "certain other devices" though. Are those standard widgets just not doing the trick. An update to the Evernote Widget app should do the trick. Remember this guy. It's the Samsung T-I9300 and the umpteenth image to show up with some sort of claim tying it to the upcoming Galaxy S III. However, in this case a Galaxy S III it is not. As we suspected when the picture first appeared online last week, the phone in question is now said to be a mid-tier device falling in the Galaxy M range (remember Samsung's new device nomenclature?). But for the GT-I9300 to be considered a step down form top-of-the-line, the Galaxy S III must have some amazing specs.

With this camera, you can take a photo using the exact same motion. You attach this device to your index finger, and form a rectangle with your finger like this. You take the photo by using the rectangle as the viewfinder, like this.

Ferrari contracts Movado for new line of watches

Having trouble keeping track of which watchmaker is producing timepieces for Ferrari these days. It can get a little confusing. Girard-Perregaux held the license for many years, after which a lackluster partnership was formed with Panerai. Then Cabestan was contracted to make one very fancy-looking watch for the Prancing Horse marque, before Hublot got the nod. And that's not including the more affordable watches marketed less to Ferrari owners than to the Scuderia's tifosi.

It seems that according to reports, iPad owners are spending $70,000 a day (collectively) for content in the iOS 5 Newsstand, purchasing subscription-based content from publications such as The New York Times, The New Yorker and The Daily. Adding on to that amount would be in-app subscriptions, and according to Distimo, news apps are apparently accounting for about 7% of the top 200 grossing apps for the iPad.

We've seen it in movies and we probably have experienced it ourselves, but when confronted with a lie, we are asked to look at the person directly in their eye and tell them that we are not lying, and now instead of a person trying to judge if you're telling the truth, a machine might be able to do that in the future thanks to research being carried out at the University of Buffalo Center for Unified Biometrics and Sensors (CUBS).

Fujifilm is launching Real 3D Mammography in Japan

Fujifilm is launching what it calls "Real 3D Mammography" which is a medical imaging system that would enable radiologists or X-Ray technicians to view mammographic images in 3D. The technology would help to see and interpret the details of an internal anatomical breast structure much more clearly that is currently possible with a 2D image. The system will cost about $181,000 and is designed to work with "Amulet f," Fujifilm's digital X-ray camera for breast cancer screening. The device is not part of the $181,000. When a picture of the breast is taken with the Amulet f, two different images will be captured from separate angles.
